The chorale melody of ‘Befiehl du deine Wege’ has often been set to music. Max Baumann composes a motet from the eight verses of the chorale, in which each verse is given its own number. The result is a kind of chorale variation, a genre mainly known from organ music. The motet is both polyphonic and homophonic. The individual sections of the work make it possible to perform an adapted, shortened version.
