The Romance is one of three works he wrote for viola - an instrument that only played a minor role in the concert repertoire at the time. Bruch created these compositions in the last years of his life. The original scoring of the Romance op. 85 was for viola and piano. Each month of the year holds its own magic – a changing palette of moods captured in the Cello Calendar through twelve expressive ballads for cello and piano. Horn quartet for horn in F - work 12 (2021, new version 2023) With ‘Wald’, Claus Woschenko has created an impressive work that combines natural sounds, contrapuntal density and tonal depth. Smartly constructed like a matryoshka, homophonic and moving sections alternate - always with a clear tonal connection and an expressive tonal language. The work was created in close collaboration with the Lausitz Horn Quartet, which premièred it in 2024. Revised in range and voice distribution, ‘Wald’ offers an appealing mixture of technical challenge and musical complexity. An exciting concert piece for ambitious horn quartets - inspired by nature, rich in sound and formally precise.
