They are primarily intended for string instruments, either in simple or choral settings. However, woodwind instruments such as the flute, oboe and clarinet can also be included by octaving the first and second violins. The optional piano part in the score makes it possible to perform the songs in smaller ensembles with 1 to 3 violins and cello, or for piano alone.
