Ein Schatz der Musikgeschichte wird gehoben: Claus Woschenko entdeckte die Musik des spätromantischen Musikers und Schriftstellers Hermann von Meysenbug (1848-1915) und bringt sie in dieser Ausgabe quellengetreu zur ersten Veröffentlichung. Dass diese Musik bisher nicht entdeckt wurde, ist erstaunlich, denn sie ist farbenreich, fantasievoll und äußert kurzweilig. Meysenbug wählt acht Bilder des Grimm'schen Märchens "Schneewittchen", die er musikalisch in Szene setzt. Sie eignen sich zur konzertanten Aufführung am Stück, lassen sich aber ebenso einzeln verwenden. Durch den leichten bis mittelschweren Schwierigkeitsgrad bietet diese Musik auch Material für den Unterricht und ein erstes konzertantes Zusammenspiel.

Dem Brauch der Zeit entsprechend können die beiden Solostimmen dieser gut gearbeiteten Kompositionen auf allen im 18. Jahrhundert gebräuchlichen Melodieinstrumenten gespielt werden. Empfehlenswert ist eine gemischte Besetzung (Flöte / Oboe / B.c. oder Flöte / Violine / B.c. oder Oboe / Violine / B.c.). Die erste Solostimme lässt die Ausführung durch eine Alt-Blockflöte zu. Somit erweist sich diese Sonate als wertvolle Bereicherung der Triosonaten-Literatur mit Alt-Blockflöte.

Johann Friedrich Fasch (1688-1758), a pupil of Johann Kuhnau, Thomaskantor in Leipzig, and (later, after initial success as an opera composer) of Christoph Graupner, court conductor in Darmstadt, moved to Zerbst in 1722 to take up the post of court conductor, where he remained until the end of his life. Christoph Schaffrath (1709-1763) was one of the important musicians and composers that the music-loving Frederick II of Prussia gathered around him. He can be described as one of the most interesting and imaginative composers of the Berlin circle. In addition to overtures, symphonies and quartets, he mainly wrote harpsichord works and chamber music in which the keyboard instrument plays a leading role.Schaffrath's Duet in D major is published here for the first time in a new edition. Our edition is based on the copy of the first print of the ‘ Six Duets op. 1 ’ in the Saxon State Library in Dresden. Duets I, III and V are written for violin and harpsichord, the others for flute and harpsichord. The present composition is Duetto II. The editor's work extends to compiling the score, correcting some errors and setting out the continuo passages. Additions to the score are indicated as such by small lines, brackets or dashes.
