"Englische Madrigale um 1600"
Die literarische und musikalische Form des Madrigals entstand am Anfang des 14. Jahrhunderts in Italien, entwickelte sich im 15. und 16. Jahrhundert weiter und verbreitete sich schnell über ganz Europa. Eine eigenständige Blüte erlebte diese typische Renaissancekunst in England im Zeitalter der Königin Elisabeth und des Dichters Shakespeare, wo in zwei Jahrzehnten 50 Madrigal-Bücher erschienen. Die Texte sind lustig-satirische oder lehrhaft-ernste Liebesgedichte vor mythologisch gefärbtem Hintergrund. Musikalisch handelt es sich um abwechslungsreiche und wohlklingende Miniaturen mit einer einfachen und klaren Satztechnik: Mischung von Kontrapunktik und Akkordik, rhythmisch kontrastierende Belebung durch Taktwechsel und wortausdeutende Klangmalereien.
