Concerto XX in C major | Valentin Rathgeber | Heinrichshofen publishing house
Valentin Rathgeber
Concerto XX in C major
Trumpet and organ
A member of the Benedictine Order, Valentin Rathgeber (1682-1750), who achieved fame for his ‘ear-pleasing and spirit-delighting table confection,’ wrote a great deal of sacred music during the period in which he held the post of "regens chori" or choirmaster at Banz Monastery/Franconia. Entitled ‘Chelys sonora’, Opus 6 one of his compositions, which appeared in print in 1728, contains a series of concertos scored for various ensembles, number 20 expressly calling for trumpet or horn as a solo instrument. In this arrangement, the solo part has been adopted in it's original form without alteration. The orchestral score, on the other hand, has been transcribed for performance on organs without pedals in conformity with Rathgeber's own style of writing for keyboard instruments as examplified in his published works. A hapsichord, may of course, be used as a substitute for organ. Content: 1. Allegro 2. Adagio 3. Presto

Tunes, Voluntaries ... from the Baroque period | Volume II
4 trumpets
Which trumpet players are not familiar with the ‘Tunes’ and ‘Voluntaries’ by Henry Purcell, Jeremiah Clarke, John Stanley or William Boyce? These works, which are generally performed in the standard Baroque instrumentation for solo trumpet and basso continuo, are presented in the three-volume collection Tunes, Voluntaries ... from the Baroque period (BRASS TOTAL series). The arrangements for trumpet quartet fundamentally change the tonal structure: instead of the traditional soloistic leadership and the harmonic foundation provided by the continuo, a homogeneous body of sound characterised by chamber music is created. This concept not only opens up new ways of interpreting baroque trumpet music, but also lends the well-known pieces a fresh, transparent lustre - an attractive alternative to historically informed performance practice. Content : 1. “Eine kleine Ostermusik” on the chorale 'Christ ist erstanden' 2. “Air de trompette” (Georg Philipp Telemann) 3. Prince of Denmark's March (Jeremiah Clarke) 4. Sonata (Daniel Speer) 5. Great God we praise you (Choral) 6. Trumpet Voluntary (William Boyce)
