Entstanden ist dabei ein Werk, dass größtenteils ternär gespielt wird und zum "Mitswingen" einlädt, bis der Schlussteil ein flotteres Tempo zu Tage trägt, so dass kein Fuß mehr auf dem Boden bleibt. The Swing Thing kann mit fünf Blockflöten (SATTB) gespielt werden und ist um zwei Stimmen (Groß- und Subbass-Blockflöte) erweiterbar.
