The ‘Little Marian Mass’ Op. 59 for two soprano voices and organ was written in 1958 for the pupils of St. Ursula's Grammar School in Duderstadt. This was reported to the Max Baumann Society on 3 March 2009 by Ms Helene Dießner, a former music teacher at the school who still lives in Duderstadt. She had asked Max Baumann for a ‘practical work for equal voices’, ‘because simple masses were rare at that time’. Ms Dießner rehearsed the work for the festive service on the occasion of the golden jubilee (1961) of the Venerable Mother Augustina.
Since then, boys' and women's choirs have also sung this mass often and with pleasure in church services, certainly also because of its interesting rhythms and appealing, novel harmonies.
