Max Bruch is one of the composers of the Romantic period. The Romance is one of three works he wrote for viola - an instrument that only played a minor role in the concert repertoire at the time. Bruch created these compositions in the last years of his life. The original scoring of the Romanze op. 85 was for viola and piano. The version presented here is an arrangement for violoncello and piano.
