This quartet composition represents an attempt to combine different musical stylistic elements - including various jazz styles, atonality, motivic-thematic work and improvisational approaches - in a coherent musical context.

When Johann Sebastian Bach was in Berlin in 1718 and 1719, he met Margrave Christian Ludwig of Brandenburg. He dedicated six concertos to him under the title “Concerts avec plusieurs instruments”. Today, these works are known as the Brandenburg Concertos and are considered as important masterpieces of music history. The present work has been arranged for brass. Samuel Scheidt (1587-1654) composed this early Baroque instrumental piece, which was published in 1621 and describes a war situation, for 4 to 5 wind instruments (2 cornetts and 3 trombones) and basso continuo. This arrangement transposes the composition and changes the part-writing in the lower parts, making the Battaglia very easy to play.

Standards & Traditionals Jazz quartets for trumpets and trombones are very rare. The arrangements presented here should be played in the "swing" style. A written-out solo shows possible ways of improvisation. The ensemble can also play without turning pages from the score.
