Der Komponist und Kontrabassist Johannes Matthias Sperger (1750-1812) war ab 1779 Mitglied der Wiener Tonkünstler-Societät. Neben zahlreichen Werken für Kontrabass komponierte er Sinfonien und Kammermusik u.a. auch für die Flöte. Sein anmutiges, zweisätziges "Duetto" erscheint hier zum ersten Mal.
