Die Lieder des Elisabethanischen Zeitalters gehören zu den schönsten Werken der Gesangsliteratur. John Dowland, Thomas Campian und Thomas Morley gelten als hervorragende Komponisten dieses Genres, und viele ihrer eingängigen Melodien sind zu beliebten Volksliedern geworden. 12 Kompositionen wurden von dem Musikwissenschaftler Dirk Möller aus den ursprünglichen Lautentabulaturen in die moderne Gitarrennotation übertragen. Bei der Bearbeitung wurden wesentliche Eingriffe in die musikalische Substanz vermieden.
